PoeticWorks Presents Poetry Extravaganza II

Posted on 16 August 2010 by Nicole

PoeticWorks Presents “Poetry Extravaganza II” this Saturday, August 21, 2010 at The Legendary NuyoRican Poets Café - hosted by John “Chance” Acevedo.

This will be the second installment of the “Poetry Extravaganza” to help raise funds and to gather school supplies for the children of The Bronx in NY. Last year LaPoeta and a small group of people got together and decided to take a stand for the children of The BX. This group and others have gotten together again this year to bring hope back into the community and to help the children of The Bronx get the school supplies needed for this coming school year.

On August 21st, PoeticWorks will be showcasing a Spoken Word Poetry event to raise awareness and funds for the children of The Bronx. The show will be featuring some of the HOTTEST and best known poets in the NYC poetry community; at one of the hottest venues in NYC – The NuyoRican Poets Café. Not only is this going to be one of the best poetry events of the summer; it will be a show that will affect the lives of so many less fortunate’s in the community. One set of school supplies can help remove one worry from the parents and children of the designated donation areas.

“Please help us help kids in need by bringing in a donation of a pen, pencil or book bag. It means the world to a child. Give the gift of helping a child in their education.” ~ LaPoeta of CommonUnity

The children of The Bronx are the reason for this event. The poets, sponsors and volunteers involved are there to spread the word – be the voices for the children. Not one child should go to school with the worry of not having school supplies. A pen, paper and pencils should be readily available for all children. But for some, it is not a luxury to own. Give back this summer by helping out and handing out. Bring your pens, paper, pencils, notebooks, backpacks – any and all school supplies that you can to the NuyoRican – help the children of The Bronx have one less worry this school year.

All donations will be given to a women and children’s shelter in The Bronx and to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission http://rescuemission.org/. Donations will be taken throughout the school year.
