Poetry Book Author – Hesey Ramus Emkhet

Posted on 15 July 2010 by Nicole

Poetry book author, Hesey Ramus Emkhet is not your everyday poetry & prose writer. He is a down-to-earth, truth-in-your-face, man of principles and respect for mankind. He believes in the right of free speech and has a high moral standard. Anyone can sit down, write some poetry and make it into a book. But, Hesey takes the poetry that he writes and brings life to each word. He has brought new meaning to the phrase “truth through expression.”

I recently had an interview with the poetry book author of “A God Within” and found an incredible insight into what makes this poet write such profound poetry & prose. I found out why he feels so passionate about uplifting the people and why he refuses to back down from racial and religious criticisms.

Take a peek into the mind of poetry book author, Hesey Ramus Emkhet, and see why he is the future in Poetry/Spoken Word. ~ Nicole S. Ross

SWNY – What inspired you to become a writer and Poetry Book Author?

Hesey - It’s funny, but a friend of mine wrote a book and I felt if he could do it I could too. So, I guess, he was my inspiration.

SWNY – How did you get started writing poetry?

Hesey – I was in a rooming house without television. All I had was my study books, a pad and a pen. I always liked to write, so I started writing my thoughts; what issues that I saw with the world.

SWNY – Who do you want to target with your writing as a Poetry Book Author?

Hesey - I really try to aim at the African-American community. We indulge and respect everyone’s culture except our own.  I try to get them to see how all cultures derived from us.

SWNY – What type of poetry are you into?

Hesey – I’m into poetry that moves you; that transforms you. We should read in order to receive the right knowledge to direct ourselves rightfully in the future. When you purchase a television, it comes along with an instruction manual. In the instruction manual it breaks down how to operate the television, such as turning on the T.V, the volume, settings etc. We as people need to realize that we need instruction manuals. We need to be taught how to be patient, trustworthy, loving, compassionate, confident, intelligent, etc. We need to be taught how to share, care for others, respect our elders, respect our parents, etc. We have gone far away from the most important thing. And that is living (life) and having love for the human species.

We seek love in materialistic things – cars, clothes, homes and jewelry. We have drifted off to the point where when you ask someone how they’re doing, their reply is “Man I’m just trying to make a living.” How can you make a living when you’re already living? Money doesn’t make the world go round. Nature does!  We need to be transformed. We need instruction manuals that are going to move us to do it. Instead of robots without a heart; we need to live life and respect everyone as if they were a part of us. Thus my poetry is one of the many instruction manuals; I’m here to assist us all.

SWNY – Who is doing what you are doing with Poetry Spoken Word that you admire?

Hesey - To be honest, I don’t see hardly anyone.  I’m not being disrespectful to anyone. But when you look at the average spoken word artist, they always tend to follow the norm. Most use loud; over-sexual lyrics; inappropriate usage of big words and are just spaced out.

SWNY – How did you get into writing poetry; reciting poetry and spoken word?

Hesey – I wanted to do something that would help us as a people; I wanted to be that voice for the people. I looked into being a rapper but I don’t wear tight pants, smoke blunts, call women bitches, drink, lie, sell cocaine, etc. I looked into being a singer but I can’t sing and neither do I want to whine when I’m singing about a woman.

Poetry is my thing. It’s the freedom of expression that I embrace. Everyone is a poet, it’s all about words. Spoken word to me is the bull horn to poetry. I love it! I always tell people Poetry is the father to the son – RAP.

SWNY – Who/What are your favorites: authors, books?

Hesey – There is one book that I find to be my favorite, “Manchild in the Promised Land” by Claude Brown. I like this book because it’s about the reality of coming from nothing and turning your life around to become whatever YOU want to be. It is a life changing book. It is very inspiration.

SWNY - Was there work that you wanted to put into your Poetry books that you left out? If so, can you explain why?

Hesey – Yes, there was a point where I felt I could have gone deeper with my writing. I wanted to be more real with my work. People read things in books and will say “did he have to say it like that?” People want the TRUTH – raw and uncut. I want to bring it to them just like it is. I held back a lot but my books still have that edge to them.

SWNY – How often do you write? What are your future plans in writing poetry?

Hesey – I write almost every other day; I don’t have writers block. After I’m done with the trilogy, “A God Within” already out, “When God Was a Mystery” will be out in this month and the final book of this three part series will be out in 2011. I will start writing children’s books.

SWNY - What have you accomplished since becoming a writer; what are you most proud of?

Hesey – My children; they alone are my most proud achievements and why I am the man that I am today. Also, I am proud of the fact that I can love who I am as a person. At one point in my life, I use to love others except for myself. With my writing career, I have written 2 books with one coming out soon.

SWNY – What inspired you to write a poetry book?

Hesey – People – my people; my race. I love being black and when we blacks do not have to worry about money; we have a good time together. My race is golden, the true Egyptians!!!!!

SWNY – Can you tell us little about your books and why you felt so compelled to write about these particular subjects?

Hesey – I have written a trilogy. The first book was, “A God Within.” The second, due out this month, is titled “When God Was a Mystery.” And last, but not least, the third is “She Speaks and I Listen to God.”

The first book, “A God Within” is a book that I wrote to counteract this so-called “New World Order”, global or world dominance by the “Illuminati” or evil beings. Our true enemies hide behind this fictitious title; the corporations are our true enemies. I felt that if we allow the corporations to fully control our lives we really will be living a “New World Order”. We need to know about the “Divine You”. Meaning, we all possess the divine in us all, A God Within. And God can’t be controlled; God can’t be told what to do. We are trapped into thinking that it’s right to pay for water, a substance that mother earth doesn’t charge us to drink. But these corporations think its okay to bottle up something that’s totally free and sale it to us. I disagree, we have free minds and free minds think freely. I’m divine, we all are divine, and we are the children of the Most High. Therefore another human can’t control me because I think highly of myself.

“When God Was A Mystery” is a book to let you know how great you are and how great you use to be in history. We as people, especially African-Americans, have been lied to about our past. This book goes in depth about what happens when “God” becomes a mystery, then when “God” comes back to being my-story or our-story. We have to stop looking for the divine “up there” and start looking for it inside of ourselves.

The last book will be “She Speaks And I Listen to God.” It’s about giving honor and respect to our women. The womb-man has the power to create female and male. They say behind every great man there is a good woman. Wrong! I believe beside every great man there is a great woman. I had to write this book because my mother raised me. All of my life I have learned from a woman. And when she speaks and we listen to what she’s saying, we learn that TRUE wisdom. That RIGHT type of wisdom that can raise a nation of people and bring us back to Godliness.

Hear me well! I’m not here to speak words of nothingness. I’m here to help us get through these days and times. My books are my life; my sacrifice to you is my life. We all should sacrifice something, why not a life for a life? This is my testimony.

SWNY – How can the public find your books and follow your teachings. I’m excited about learning more through this “instruction manual” of yours.
