Spoken Word Artist, Poets and Musicians will be performing Saturday, August 7th for the Urban Voices Heard – Listen Up! Poetry & Music showcase at the NuyoRican Poets Café. This event will be the first installation of the LISTEN UP! showcase.
Urban Voices Heard will be showcasing this special event at the legendary NuyoRican Poets Café, featuring Spoken Word Artists, Poets and Musicians. There will be an open call for the 2nd installation of the LISTEN UP! showcase coming soon. Be on the look out for that.

Ibrahim P.O.E.T Saddiq
Ibrahim Siddiq aka P.O.E.T is not your average Spoken Word Artist; more so an activist and philosopher rooted in poetry. P.O.E.T is an acronym for Putting Out Eternal Thoughts. He believes “thought is creative energy… the world is the way it is because of our collective thoughts about it.” He also has an album out “Spoken World” and has his 2nd album due out soon titled, “Nerd At The Cool Table.”
Anyone looking to see P.O.E.T live can easily join his mailing list by sending an email to FreedumbMovement@Gmail.com – for updates on upcoming shows and projects. Anyone looking to view his work online can add him on Facebook using his email or just visiting www.facebook.com/FreedumbMovement as well as his YouTube page: www.youtube.com/SpokenWorldTV
Christine-Jean
“We tell our stories to let our ancestors know that we remember, and to remind the children never to forget.” ~ Christine-Jean Blain
Christine-Jean Blain is the author of “Lighting the Path Back Home” – a short collection of poetry and prose. Her work has been published in many anthologies, magazines, and newspapers. She is a former Writer in Residence at Hedgebrook; a Cave Canem Alumna; and a founding member of Dusks Daughters Arts Collective.

Noodle
Displaying an artistic maturity beyond his 26 years, Andre Rainey – better known as “Noodle the Innocent Child” – is beginning to leave his mark on the music industry. His plan – spark a much-needed resurrection for positive and inspirational Hip Hop.
Following the success of his 2008 collaborative mixtape “Escape Route: Change Gonna Come…,” which was critically well-received due to its raw, authentic lyricism and quality production, Noodle decided to focus on his debut solo project “It’s A N00 Day!.” This latest offering – produced largely by M-Nasty – will provide an insight into his development and progression as an artist and also aim to lighten the mood within a tough industry climate. The album will also showcase a number of gifted artists, including Ella Lazel, Big Snuff, LaRue, Feature, Cyph-Low, R. Haze, and Young Guito. Uplifting, insightful and feel-good music at its best, this forthcoming release certainly marks a “N00 Day” for Hip Hop.

Samson has bless the stages at places such as the legendary NuyoRican Poets Café; La Pregunta Arts Café; The Red Room; Logos Lounge and Herkimer County Community College, and SoulSweet Sanctuary just to name a few. If you know Samson, you know him to be coined “The Grinder.” Grinding is a word that he tends to use a lot because grinding is what Samson loves to do. James Kennedy
James Kennedy is a one-man-band with a soul-stirring sound all his own. He is a multi-talented guitarist with the vocal styling similar to Kruger and Clapton. He is one of the musical members of Urban Voices Heard. James K is a 19 year old singer/songwriter/musician, whose soulful style and relative lyrics have captivated many audiences. He plays all over NYC from the Bronx to Brooklyn, including the subway trains and platforms in between. He meets all of his fans in person as appose to creating an almost imaginary fan base of people he has never met on the internet. He believes in “… the importance of relationships between those who enjoy my music and me, rather than the shallow and bullshit accolades that come along with being consumed in the world wide web of everyone thinking they are a star.” His album titled, “Who Is James Kennedy?” is one that you will find a small part of yourself in every song.
Prophet
Prophet is our 19 year old rapper. “I’ve seen people actually fall out their chairs after hearing the words coming from his mouth.” ~ Latanya Devaughn
Prophet’s pieces range from topics about street life to biblical. Look out for his album due out this summer titled,“Follow the Leader.”
Speakers of the House
“Speakers of the House” have a sound like 90′s Hip Hop and R&B mixed with the soul of Jazz and the heartbeat of Africa’s drums. With words that “submit to His will – the Maker of Heaven and Earth,” these two young artists write for the right reasons. Mr.John and Naa Akua combine the perfect blend of Emceeing with Spoken Word to create a fusion unlike no other.
Servantz of the EARTH
Servantz of the Earth is a duo consisting of the artists Rahwa and Bill Blass. Servantz of the Earth’s mission is to make music that is inspiring, insightful and entertaining. The core of their music is rooted in pure Hip Hop, but their distinct creativity and unique sound form a completely new genre of its own. Servantz of the Earth’s live performances have been known to captivate and move audiences. Their theatrical and energetic shows create experiences that not only entertain, but also change. Together they are a force bringing diversity and freshness to the world of music.
